Some Czech verbs do not have the Perfective Form. The future and the past tense is formed by using solely the imperfective form. Such verbs are called Imperfectum Tantum.

These usually include verbs which express activities taking some time to perform (pracovat, spát, studovat, cestovat…).

Verb Groups

  • modal verbs (muset, moci, chtít)
  • state verbs (znát, věřit, mít rád)
  • undetermined movement verbs (létat, chodit, jezdit)
  • verbs with a long vowel prefix (závidět, týkat se, nárokovat si)
  • metaphorical verbs (donášet na někoho).
